Kitchen Renovations in Cape Town, Done Properly

The kitchen is the one room where a renovation touches everything at once — plumbing, electrics, walls, floors and cabinetry all meet in a few square metres. That is why kitchen projects go wrong more often than any other, and why we treat them as proper building work rather than a quick facelift. Around The House handles kitchen renovations across Cape Town from strip-out to final paint, with one team responsible for the whole job.

What a Kitchen Renovation With Us Includes

Every kitchen is different, but most projects cover some mix of the following: stripping out the old kitchen and disposing of the rubble, moving or adding plumbing points for sinks and appliances, new electrical points and lighting with a certificate of compliance, plastering and painting, new floors or tiling, and fitting the new cabinetry and tops. If a wall needs to come out to open the kitchen to the living space, we prop and support the structure properly and fit a beam where it is load-bearing — that structural side is exactly the work we do every week.

What Does a Kitchen Renovation Cost in Cape Town?

As a working range in 2026, a straightforward kitchen refresh starts around R60,000 to R90,000, a full mid-range renovation typically lands between R120,000 and R250,000, and premium kitchens with stone tops and custom cabinetry go beyond that. The honest answer is that layout changes drive cost more than finishes do — moving the sink across the room costs more than upgrading the counter. We priced this in detail in our kitchen renovation cost breakdown, and every project gets a fixed written quote after a site visit.

How We Run the Job

Kitchens are disruptive — you are living without the busiest room in the house. So we sequence the work to keep the downtime short: strip-out and first-fix plumbing and electrics early, wet trades next so screeds and plaster can cure while cabinetry is being made, then installation and finishing in one run. We keep the site tidy, seal off the work area from the rest of the house, and tell you honestly when something behind a wall changes the plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a kitchen renovation take?

A cosmetic refresh runs about two to three weeks. A full renovation with layout changes usually takes six to eight weeks, mostly driven by cabinetry lead times and how much plumbing and electrical work moves.

Can you knock out the wall between the kitchen and lounge?

Usually yes. We check whether the wall is load-bearing first, prop the structure while we work, and install a steel beam where one is needed. Open-plan conversions are one of our most common requests.

Do you supply the cabinets and counters?

We work both ways — we can manage the full supply through our cabinetry partners, or do the building work around cabinets you have ordered yourself. Either way one team carries the programme.

Do I need council plans for a kitchen renovation?

Not for a like-for-like renovation. If we remove a structural wall or extend the kitchen footprint, plans may be required — our guide on building plan approval in Cape Town explains when they apply.
